Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a 3,000 year old therapy that involves
insertion of very fine needles into specific points to alter the flow of Qi (pronounced "Chi" ) in the body. The needles are so fine, there is no bleeding and most insertions you can't even feel. Our acupuncturists practice traditional chinese medicine (TCM), which chooses point locations pased on the oriental medicine exam and the body's energy meridians, and not dry needling (stick needles where it hurts) which is commonly used by chiropractors and physical therapists.

Cupping

Traditional cupping uses a flame to create a vacuum within a glass that is applied to the skin to create a warming suction. Cupping can be used to remove stagnation of blood and lymphatic swelling, as well as release tension in muscles. Our acupuncturists use this both as a standalone therapy, and as an addition to their acupuncture treatments.

Tui Na

The term tui na (pronounced "twee naw"), which literally means "pinch and pull," refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapeutic massage and body work. Tui na shines at moving stagnant blood and lymphatic fluid and is especially used by our cancer patients. While tui na is meant to be truly be therapeutic, it is also a nice way to relax and help manage stress. We use Tui na as an addition to our acupuncture therapy treatments.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a form of body work that uses specially shaped tools, traditionally made of jade, to break up scar tissue and fibrosis. Gua sha is an adjunctive therapy to our acupuncture treatments and can be used to for a range of conditions including lymphatic swelling, edema, plantar fascitis, knots in muscles, and even reduces wrinkles.
